The Benefits of staff training and development

A quick blog post to start off the year. Busy times already and once again courses being delivered in the corners of the country. I had a long discussion with and L&D manager about the problems of getting funding for regular courses and it reminded me of my own times in various training departments, battling away to keep our budgets in the face of cuts. It does always seem to be one of the first things to be cut when things start to get tight financially. This is counter-productive - anyone in the training world will tell you the huge benefits that proper, structured training will bring. So many examples from those attending courses on how what they have learnt will save hours of time and make them so much more productive and efficient in their jobs. So, if you are lucky enough to attend some training that has helped you, you need to shout about it as loud as you can in order to help protect this vital resource.
