SUMMARY

To plan, create, test a SharePoint based Intranet for an engineering company based in the West Midlands. On completion of the Intranet, we will be providing training to super-users who will continue to develop the Intranet we have built.

contract scope

The contract called for us to attend virtual meetings with the management of the company to advise and provide guidance of SharePoint’s capabilities and limitations.

The project was given the go-ahead by the management and we were given administrator level access to their SharePoint environment so that sites, pages, and components could be created and integrated.

timescales

The project commenced in March 2021 and the final target completion date is June 2021. So far, initial areas have been built and are being refined based on the feedback of the users and management of the company.

Training of super-users will take place once the Intranet has had final sign-off.

The project completed in August 2022

lessons learnt/reflections

As with other remote working projects, communication is a challenge to get answers to queries and generally stay in touch. A more robust and regular communication schedule would have made early parts of the project easier to achieve.

OTHER Information

Initial requirements called for a particular type of SharePoint template which was found to be unsuitable in the end. Further development was required.

This project has been more about the technical aspects of SharePoint and site building which helps to deepen our understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the platform. This will hold us in good stead for the future.
